Scoring method: AI vs human. PTE is scored entirely by artificial intelligence. IELTS Speaking and Writing are marked by a human examiner. If you are nervous about speaking to a person, PTE may feel less stressful. However, AI scoring means you must be very precise with pronunciation — there is no human understanding your accent.
Test format differences. IELTS has separate modules and you can take the computer-based or paper-based version. PTE is always computer-based with a microphone for Speaking.
